Qatar’s Ministry of Interior seizes 144 fake World Cup prizes

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Qatari Ministry of Interior announced, on Wednesday, the seizure of 144 counterfeit copies of the 2022 World Cup award, whose owners intended to sell it by promoting it on a website on the Internet, indicating that it will take all legal measures.

The Qatari Ministry of Interior said, through its account on Twitter: “The Department for Combating Economic and Electronic Crimes at the General Department of Criminal Investigation, in cooperation with the Intellectual Property Protection Committee, managed to seize 144 counterfeit cups similar to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, in violation of Law No. 10 of 2021 regarding measures hosting the FIFA World Cup.

The Ministry of Interior added: “The details are due to the availability of information that there is a website that promotes the sale of cups that mimic the true shape of the World Cup, and by intensifying the search and investigation, the accused were reached, and a group of counterfeit cups were seized in their possession, and the legal procedures will be completed.”

“For its part, the Ministry of Interior and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, in cooperation with FIFA, continue their efforts to raise awareness regarding intellectual property rights associated with the tournament,” she added.

And the International Football Association has previously published awareness messages warning once morest exploiting the intellectual property rights associated with the World Championship, without obtaining the prior written consent of FIFA, to avoid legal accountability.
