Doha: US President Joe Biden thanked Qatar for the release of American citizens imprisoned in Iran. Last day, Iran and the United States handed over the prisoners under the mediation of Qatar. Yesterday, Iran released five American citizens who were in jail in Tehran.
Along with this, the United States also released five Iranian citizens who were in American prisons. The prisoners were transferred through Qatar. Joe Biden thanked the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, for accomplishing the difficult task through months of hard work.
The two countries agreed to release the prisoners following months of talks in Doha, mediated by Qatar. Five American citizens imprisoned in Iran and two of the five Iranians imprisoned in the US were handed over to Doha on Monday evening. Three out of five Iranians expressed interest in remaining in the United States.
