Sources close to the head of the Marada Movement, Suleiman Franjieh, indicated to MTV that it is not unlikely that he will take a decision to withdraw his candidacy and adopt the nomination of the army commander for the presidency if it is proven that he will not be able to reach Baabda, as he may take the initiative to not keep the country in complete paralysis.
MTV Information reported that the Qatari envoy arrived in Beirut hours ago and will meet with MP Mohamed Raad, and told Hezbollah that he would say frankly to Raad, “We put forward the army commander as president, but Franjieh, we are responsible for convincing him to support Aoun.”
The information revealed that “the Qatari envoy has a new formula that takes into account Le Drian’s findings that there is no solution for Franjieh or Bazaour, and he will raise the ceiling to confirm that this is the last chance for Lebanon to try to elect a president. Otherwise, bear the consequences if you fail the mission.”
For its part, Hezbollah sources told MTV: We are preparing for what might happen if the Qatari envoy fails in his effort, and therefore we are likely to follow the Qatari presidential settlement.
Regarding MP Gebran Bassil’s position on the Qatari settlement, the party’s sources said: He is free in his decisions. We deal with Bassil on the basis that he is neither an enemy nor an adversary, but he is no longer an ally. Rather, he is a Christian party that can be relied upon in some issues.
