Qatari Emir and Lebanese PM Discuss Latest Developments in Palestinian Territories and Region

Doha, October 29, 2023 (Xinhua) – The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, today (Sunday) discussed with the Prime Minister of the Lebanese caretaker government, Najib Mikati, in Doha, the latest developments in the situation in the Palestinian territories and the region.

The Qatari Emiri Diwan stated in a statement on its website that the Emir of the country, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, received in his office at the Diwan today the Prime Minister of the Lebanese caretaker government, Najib Mikati, and the accompanying delegation, on the occasion of his visit to the country.

The Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani also met with Mikati today, according to what the Qatari Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The statement explained that during the meeting, they reviewed the cooperation relations between the two countries and ways to support and develop them, the latest developments in the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and Israel, and ways to reduce the escalation.

He pointed out that the Qatari Prime Minister stressed the necessity of working on an immediate ceasefire, and concerted regional and international efforts to reduce the extent of violence and the cycle of conflict in the region, which he warned would have dire consequences if it expanded.

He also stressed that Doha constantly stands by Lebanon and its people and supports all efforts aimed at the unity, security and stability of the country.

The Lebanese Prime Minister arrived in Doha this morning on an official visit, which media reports said was part of an Arab tour to strengthen Lebanon’s position and support the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Yesterday (Saturday), during his meeting with the Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, Mikati confirmed that the government is making contacts, efforts, and diplomatic and political efforts at the Arab and international levels to stop the Israeli aggression once morest southern Lebanon and Gaza.
