This is the announcement that Marc Tarabella (PS) made this Saturday morning. Released from prison on April 13, he was placed under electronic surveillance at his home in Anthisnes, a town where the MEP is also mayor.

On his return home, he announced that he planned to resume the exercise of his functions as mayor and, if necessary, to organize the College of Mayors and Aldermen at his home.

Today, Marc Tarabella renounces, for the moment, this project. “After careful consideration, I prefer to postpone my resumption of duty as mayor, not being able to fully meet the requirements related to it. I make this decision in the interest of the municipality“, he communicates.

Managing a municipality, a fortiori a rural municipality, requires mobility and proximity that are currently not possible for me. As soon as the situation allows, I will return to the service of the Anthisnoises and the Anthisnois“, adds Marc Tarabella.

As a reminder, Marc Tarabella has been charged in the Qatargate affair, this alleged corruption affair which has shaken the European Parliament since last December. This vast system of corruption would have aimed to influence the decisions of Parliament for the benefit of several countries including Qatar and Morocco. In Belgium, qFour people, including Marc Tarabella, have been remanded in custody. The main accused, Pier Antonio Panzeri collaborates with Justice and benefits from the status of repentant. Marc Tarabella, he has been claiming his innocence from the start.
