Qatar remains the most peaceful country in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region for the 15th consecutive year, according to the 2022 Global Peace Index. Qatar is one of the 25 most peaceful MENA countries globally.
Qatar ranked 23rd out of 163 countries globally – up six places from the previous year. Qatar got the highest score of 1.533.
Behind Qatar in the MENA region are Kuwait (39th globally), Jordan (57th), United Arab Emirates (60th) and Oman (64th).
For the second consecutive year, Yemen has become the least peaceful country in the MENA region. Yemen has become the second least peaceful country globally, with the country’s peace rate rising every year since 2018.
New Zealand, Ireland, Denmark, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Singapore, Japan and Iceland remain the most peaceful countries.
The 2022 GPI finds the world less peaceful for the 11th time in the last 14 years. The country’s average level of peace fell by 0.3 percent from last year.
