At least 12 people were injured during turbulence on a flight over Turkey. The Qatar Airways aircraft was en route from Doha to Dublin.
The Qatar Airways Boeing 787-9 dreamliner experienced turbulence while in the air over Turkey. Six passengers and six crew members were reported injured. “The Dublin Airport team continues to provide full ground assistance to passengers and airline staff,” an Airport Ireland spokesman said.
On its landing just before 13:00 noon local time today (26.05.2024), Qatar Airways flight QR017 was met by emergency services, including airport police and firefighters.
It is recalled that a few days earlier, a 73-year-old man died tragically on a flight to Singapore, which experienced severe turbulence earlier this week.
On the same Singapore Airlines flight, more than 100 people were injured, 20 of whom are in intensive care with spinal injuries.
Accidents caused by in-flight turbulence are the most common type of accident, according to a 2021 study by the US National Transportation Safety Board.
From 2009 to 2018, the US agency found that more than a third of reported plane crashes were due to turbulence, and most resulted in one or more injuries but no aircraft damage.
