Qatar Airways confirms negotiations with the federal government for an upcoming flight from AIFA

Qatar Airways held preliminary talks regarding starting flights to Mexico City, the airline reported Friday. confirming a rapprochement with the Mexican government.

The federal administration indicated this Thursday that the airline is interested in establishing a route for the next Soccer World Cup 2022 in Qatar and due to the great fans in Mexico.

Last Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry reported that the two parties intended to determine next week when they would begin follow-up talks on the route, following the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard, announced that the airline had expressed interest in flying to a new airport in Mexico City.

“Qatar Airways confirms that it had the first informal discussions regarding flights to Mexico City with the Mexican government and both parties will remain in close contact on the matter“said a spokesman for Qatar Airways in a statement.

The airline, which earlier this week denied having plans to start flying from the new Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), declined to say when talks might take place or to give more details regarding what was being discussed.

Until now, companies such as Aeroméxico, Volaris and Viva Aerobus have confirmed that they will fly there, as well as the airline Conviasa, from Venezuela, registered as the first international airline to announce its entry into operations at the new Mexican aerodrome.
