PwC: Managers extremely optimistic about 2022 | 01/17/22

Almost three quarters of Austrian executives are forecasting a strong global economy in 2022 and expect higher sales in their own company, according to the “PwC Global CEO Survey” (sample in Austria: 42 managing directors).

Four out of five companies have already made a commitment to be carbon neutral or are in the process of doing so.

“The optimism of domestic CEOs for this year is a full 62 percentage points higher than at the beginning of the corona pandemic in 2020, when 68 percent of executives were still forecasting an economic downturn,” says the international consulting firm PwC. However, the survey was conducted in October and November 2021, i.e. before the big omicron wave.

Peter Perktold, CEO of PwC Austria, points out that the year before, 92 percent of those surveyed said they were very confident or confident that their company would grow in 2021.

Only 21 percent of Austrian CEOs (33 percent globally) named climate change as one of the top concerns for the coming year, “reflecting the belief that it will not impact revenue growth in the near future,” according to PwC. But at least 79 percent of CEOs in Austria stated that they had already made a commitment to CO2 neutrality or that it was in the works. The commitment to climate neutrality is particularly high in China, where 92 percent of CEOs have already committed to it or are working on it.
