Birmingham: Badminton player PV Sindhu will carry the Indian flag at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony instead of Neeraj Chopra who withdrew due to injury. Sindhu also carried the flag at the 2018 Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast, Australia. Sindhu, who won silver in women’s badminton singles at the last Games, is coming to Birmingham aiming for gold this time.
Officials of the Indian Olympic Association said that they are happy to announce that two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu has been chosen to carry India’s flag. Apart from Sindhu, the association also considered office bearer Meerabai Chanu and women’s boxer Lovlina. However, Sindhu fell again.
