Putin’s order to strengthen the security of the Crimean Bridge and surrounding energy infrastructure

Empowering the Federal Security Service… Ukraine: Explosive trucks depart from Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued an order to strengthen security on the Crimean Bridge and the Crimean Peninsula energy infrastructure following an explosion and fire on the Crimean Bridge on the 8th (local time), the Kremlin said.

According to TASS and Archyde.com, Putin signed a presidential decree, giving the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) authority to organize and coordinate related affairs.

Security targets include transportation across the Kerch Strait, the power grid between Russia and Crimea, and the gas pipeline connecting the Krasnodar region and Crimea.

The move is aimed at improving the effectiveness of the defense of these transport and energy infrastructures, the Presidential Decree said.

On the Crimean Bridge that connects the Crimean Peninsula occupied by Russia in 2014 and the Russian mainland, at 6:07 am on the same day, a large fire broke out in a freight train carrying oil following a powerful explosion.

Three people were killed, part of one side of the vehicle bridge collapsed, and vehicle and rail traffic was temporarily suspended.

Russia’s State Anti-Terrorism Commission announced that a bomb exploded in a truck crossing a vehicle bridge.

An investigation committee, under the direction of Putin, is investigating the accident, including identifying the truck owner and conducting a search of the residence, as well as tracing the truck’s route.

The Crimean Bridge is a key infrastructure that connects Crimea, which is called ‘Putin’s Holy Land’ and the Russian mainland, and it is observed that fuel and food supply to Crimea may be disrupted following the accident.

There are voices within Russia who are suspicious of Ukraine, but Ukraine has not officially acknowledged responsibility for the accident.

“It should be noted that the truck that exploded was from Russia,” said Mikhail Podolyak, aide to the Office of the President of Ukraine, and that even within Russia, the truck carrying the bomb safely passed X-ray inspection before entering the Crimean Bridge. There are opinions regarding
