In a broadcast interview, he was evaluated as an “experienced and predictable politician”
Regarding the controversy over Biden’s old age, “We found no signs of cognitive problems.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his opinion on the 14th (local time) that from Russia’s perspective, it would be preferable for U.S. President Joe Biden to win the U.S. presidential election in November rather than for Donald Trump.
According to foreign media such as the Financial Times (FT) and TASS News Agency, President Putin said this when asked whether he preferred Trump or Biden in a national broadcast interview that day.
President Putin evaluated, “The American leader (Biden) is a politician with more experience and predictability (than Trump).”
The FT reported that this is the first time Putin has mentioned this year’s U.S. presidential election.
Prior to this statement, President Biden criticized former President Trump the previous day for “giving in to the Russian dictator” and urged Republican lawmakers in Congress to approve additional funding for Ukraine.
On the 13th, the U.S. Senate passed a security package worth $95.3 billion (regarding 127 trillion won), which includes support for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. Of this, $60 billion (approximately 80 trillion won) is the support budget for Ukraine. However, because former President Trump opposes the bill, it is unclear whether it will pass the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.
Former President Trump was criticized for being particularly lenient toward President Putin during his time in office. U.S. intelligence agencies believed that Trump intervened in the 2016 U.S. presidential election to help then-Republican candidate Hillary Clinton win over Democratic former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
President Putin also responded cautiously to the controversy over President Biden’s advanced age, saying, “I am not a doctor and I will refrain from making comments related to that.”
However, President Putin said that he considers this controversy to be part of the increasingly vicious US presidential election campaign and that “we have found no evidence that Biden is unfit to serve as president.”
When President Putin met President Biden in Geneva in 2021, he dismissed the issue, saying there were no signs of cognitive problems.
He said, “I met Biden a few years ago, and even back then, there were rumors regarding cognitive problems. He looked at his notes occasionally, but I also looked at my notes every now and then.”
President Putin also said that President Biden hit his head on a helicopter while leaving the location, saying, “It is a mistake that anyone can make.”
