British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss announced her candidacy for the post of leader of the Conservative Party, who will head the government. Writes about it “Kommersant” on Monday, July 11th.

Truss became the tenth contender for the post of prime minister. She promised from the first day of work to engage in tax cuts. The Foreign Minister added that she is nominating her candidacy because she can “lead people, keep promises and make difficult decisions.”

“I will get down to business as Prime Minister, whether it is ensuring the defeat of Vladimir Putin in Ukraine or stimulating the economy,” the minister said, adding that while working at the Foreign Ministry, she helped “lead the international reaction” to the actions of the Russian Federation in Ukraine and helped in the work over sanctions.

Liz Truss has been British Foreign Secretary since September 2021. Prior to that, she headed the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Equal Opportunities, the Ministry of Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of the Environment. Truss is one of the most outspoken critics of Russia’s actions.
