Putin’s Chilling Silence: A Cynical Take on the Ukraine War

This was reported by the RBK-Ukraine news agency.

Speaking via video link at the G20 summit, the Kremlin leader did not avoid the topic of the war in Ukraine caused by Russia. He cynically stated that one should “think about how to stop this tragedy”.

“Military actions are always a tragedy for specific people, specific families and the entire country. Of course, we should think about how to stop this tragedy. By the way, Russia has never given up on peace talks with Ukraine,” V. Putin announced another dose of absurdity.

He also included the war between Israel and Hamas in the context of aggression against Ukraine, drawing parallels with the so-called “coup” in Ukraine (this is what the Kremlin calls the Maidan protests, after which the pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych fled to Russia in 2014, ed. ) and “extermination of the population in Palestine”.

“The war in Ukraine cannot but shock, and the coup in Ukraine and the destruction of the civilian population there and in Palestine is not shocking?” – added V. Putin.

Ukraine is not negotiating with Russia

It should be noted that the Kremlin authorities from time to time resort to such statements as “readiness to negotiate with Ukraine”, but only under the conditions demanded by Moscow.

After the full-scale invasion began, the Ukrainian side tried to negotiate to prevent escalation. Now, and for some time now, there are no peace talks between Kyiv and Moscow.
