In a brief televised speech on Monday evening, Vladimir Putin paid tribute to the Russians and Wagner’s soldiers who avoided a bloodbath, two days after the abortive rebellion of Yevgueni Prigojine.

During a televised address, Vladimir Putin returned to what happened at the end of the week in Russia.

The Russian president first thanked “almost all of Russian society” which showed itself “united” by “responsibility, for the fatherland” during the mutiny of Wagner’s soldiers.

The Russian president also thanked “most Wagner fighters” for having given up a “bloodbath”. These are “patriots loyal to their people”, he said. These would have been “used against their brothers in arms”.

“I thank the soldiers and fighters of Wagner who made the decision to stop, who did not allow the bloodshed“, said the president.

Wagner’s soldiers now have “the possibility of continuing to serve Russia, signing the contract with the Ministry of Defense”.

It was partly because of this integration contract that Wagner’s forces rebelled.

This rebellion was however “doomed to failure”, declared V. Putin.

“Any blackmail, destabilization attempt is doomed to failure”hammered the Russian president.

“Almost all of Russian society was united (…) for the fatherland. All decisions were taken to neutralize the danger, protect the constitutional order and the lives of our fellow citizens.”

“The rebellion would have been subdued”, said the head of the Kremlin.

The Russian president also condemned the organizers of this mutiny. “Those who took this criminal step to divide the country… they are the enemies of Russia who wanted “Russian soldiers to kill each other”.

Vladimir Putin did not expressly quote Yevgeny Prigojine. He, however, said Wagner’s heads could leave Russia.

Also on Monday evening_,_ the Russian president thanked state security officials on Monday for their work during the Wagner Group’s aborted armed rebellion.

“I have brought you together to thank you for the work accomplished during these few days and to discuss the situation”declared Mr. Putin during this meeting which was held in the presence of the Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu but in the absence of the Chief of Staff Valéri Guerassimov, the two declared enemies of the head of Wagner, Evguéni Prigojine .
