“The whole world is laughing at what’s happening there,” he said of the United States. “This is just a disaster – this is not democracy – what the hell is this?” Putin added.
For the first time, the Russian president mentioned Navalny’s name
Putin also spoke regarding the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, confirming discussions regarding a possible prisoner swap with the West before Navalny’s death. However, Putin stated that such an exchange would (have) been conditioned on Navalny not returning to Russia. However, this can no longer take place due to the unexpected death of the politician.
Amid rising tensions and cross-border drone attacks on Russian territory, Putin hinted at the possibility of creating a “special zone” in the Ukrainian territories currently under the control of the Kiev government. Although he did not provide specifics, this proposal suggests a potential solution to mitigate the conflict.
