Four weeks following the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, more than ten million people have fled the former Soviet republic. Although fighting continues in many places, Russian forces have still not been able to take control of any of the larger cities. Instead, the troops of Russian President Vladimir Putin are making no progress in the metropolitan areas, there is sometimes a lack of supplies for the “Z-Invasion”, whose vehicles are marked with the letter Z – and the Ukrainian armed forces are putting up fierce resistance. The situation in the encircled southeastern Ukrainian port of Mariupol, where fighting continued unabated on Wednesday, remains dramatic.
