Putin urged to end UN Charter violations and war

AA/New York

Ministers at the UN Security Council called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine, accusing him of violating the UN Charter.

This is what emerges from their speeches delivered during the ministerial session under the theme: “Combating impunity in Ukraine” with the participation of the 15 Member States of the Council.

French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna condemned Russia’s “aggression” once morest Ukraine, saying it was a “flagrant violation of the UN Charter”.

She said during her speech that France “refuses to participate in any escalation in Ukraine”, calling on other countries to “hold the perpetrators of crimes in Ukraine accountable”.

Colonna thus underlined that Russia “has violated the rules of war” in Ukraine, calling for taking as evidence “the facts that are currently occurring in Ukraine” in order to obtain justice.

For his part, the American Secretary of State Antony Blinken pointed the finger during his speech to the Security Council, “Putin’s recourse to nuclear weapons”, stressing that the latter is working to extend the conflict.

In this context, Blinken recalled the “atrocities” committed by Russian forces in Ukraine, calling on the Russian president to end the war and violations of the United Nations Charter.

“To expand this war, Putin deliberately mobilized 300,000 reservists,” he said.

The American official, at the same time, described the annexation of Ukrainian territories by Russia as “a dangerous step”.
