Putin threatens to attack new targets if Ukraine receives long-range missiles | Europe | D.W.

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned this Sunday (06.05.2022) that Russia will attack new targets if Western countries deliver long-range missiles to Ukraine and assured that the current arms shipments seek to “prolong the conflict.”

If Ukraine receives long-range missiles, “then we will draw the appropriate conclusions and use our weapons,” Putin said, according to excerpts from an interview to be broadcast on Rossiya-1 channel on Sunday.

The intention is “to attack targets that we have not attacked so far,” he added.

However, the Kremlin leader did not define the scope from which Moscow will react or what the targets might be.

The remarks come following the United States announced its decision to hand over its Himars multiple rocket launchers, which have a range of regarding 80 kilometers, to Ukraine.

Military experts emphasize that this range is slightly higher than that of similar Russian systems, which would allow Ukraine to attack enemy artillery without being attacked by it.
