Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the main gas pipeline to Europe “Nord Stream”, which has been suspended, “will resume supply tomorrow if there is a turbine. However, Western countries are blocking everything.” He blamed the West for it.
Speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Putin said Nord Stream was “virtually” closed.
British law applies to all technical issues with the gas turbine at the Portovaya Compressor Station in Russia. Russia’s state-owned natural gas company Gazprom has signed a turbine maintenance contract with Siemens Energy’s British subsidiary Industrial Turbine. Putin said the company did not respond to Gazprom’s requests for turbines.
Mr Putin said Europe was driving itself into a “sanctions dead end” and said that accusations that Russia was using natural gas as a weapon were “nonsense”.
He added that Russia was ready to put the Nord Stream 2 into operation tomorrow if needed. He dismissed proposals to set price caps on domestic oil and gas as “an extra layer of folly” and vowed not to supply oil, petroleum products or gas to countries that impose price caps.
