He continued: “The risk of the emergence of new epidemics and the spread of dangerous diseases already known in the world remains very high. The African continent is particularly vulnerable to these challenges, and needs to accelerate the building of medical, scientific and technological capabilities to protect its population. Russia, for its part, is ready for more active cooperation in this important sector of healthcare.”

He pointed out that the program to assist African countries in the field of health and epidemiology, which was launched in 2023, provides for the provision of ten mobile laboratories with a high level of biological protection, the training of more than 350 African specialists, in addition to a series of joint scientific research.

Putin stressed that the conference participants, including representatives of relevant government departments and services, doctors, epidemiologists and microbiologists from 20 countries, will be able to exchange knowledge and professional experience in preventing outbreaks of infectious diseases and responding to these challenges.

The “Rospotripnadzor” organization, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uganda, is organizing the Russian-African International Conference on the Control of Infectious Diseases from April 17-19, 2024 in the city of Kampala in the African Republic. About 150 participants from 18 African countries, Southeast Asia, South America and international organizations are participating in the conference.

During the plenary sessions, panel discussions and round tables, it is planned to discuss issues related to modern threats to biosafety, prevention and preparedness for epidemics and the development of laboratory infrastructure to combat various epidemics, especially serious, natural and socially significant infections relevant to the countries of the African continent, and the use of international experience in eliminating disease outbreaks. Infectious diseases, and prospects for cooperation between Russia and African countries in combating infectious diseases. Demonstration exercises using Russian mobile laboratories will be held within the framework of the conference.
