Putin is discussing in the Russian Security Council the launch of an international payments system

Putin said at the meeting: “Today I propose to discuss the necessary measures to establish a system of international payments, which is one of the most prominent tasks in modern conditions (sanctions), and one of the serious challenges for us (Russia).”

He added, “We are working towards forming a system for international payments, but it is better to discuss the difficulties in a timely manner and determine the necessary measures to overcome these difficulties that people are trying to create for us from outside (the West).”

Participating in the meeting were Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, Security Council Vice President Dmitry Medvedev, Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu, Presidential Assistant Nikolai Patrushev, Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The Special Representative of the Russian President for Environmental Activities and Transport Sergei Ivanov, as well as the President of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina.

Russia is discussing with the countries in the BRICS group establishing an electronic platform for international payments to break the West’s monopoly and reduce dependence on “toxic” Western currencies in international trade.

Many countries around the world are seeking to increase the role of national currencies in international trade and reduce dependence on the dollar in light of Washington’s use of its currency as a tool in sanctions.
