Russian President Vladimir Putin today denounced a “heinous crime” after the attack on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who was seriously wounded by bullets.
In a telegram sent to his Slovakian counterpart Zuzana Tzaputova and released by the Kremlin, Putin wrote: “I learned with indignation about the assassination attempt against Robert Fico, the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic. Nothing can justify this heinous crime. I know Robert Fitzo as a brave and determined man. I hope that these characteristics of his will help him overcome this difficult situation.”
At the same time, the Russian ambassador in Bratislava condemned today’s shooting attack against the prime minister of Slovakia.
“I condemn in the strongest terms this act of violence and express my belief in the need to punish the perpetrators,” Igor Brachikov said in a letter to Ficho, which the Russian embassy posted on its Facebook page.
