“Several international telephone calls” are scheduled in the president’s daily agenda.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will chair an extraordinary session of the country’s Security Council on Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said.
According to the spokesman, it is a meeting of a “large security council.” He also reported that “several international phone calls” are scheduled in Putin’s daily schedule.
The announcement takes place in the middle of the tensions around Ukraine. A day earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron kept up telephone conversations with Putin and his American counterpart, Joe Biden. During the talks, he has proposed holding a summit between the two leaders to address security and strategic stability issues. Both Putin and Biden agreed “in principle” to participate in the meeting, which will only take place if Russia does not invade Ukraine, according to the Elysee Palace.
No obstante, Peskov has not confirmed that there are concrete plans on the summit between Putin and Biden.
“There is an understanding that the contacts will be made at the level of ministers, foreign ministers. We assume that [Serguéi] Lavrov can meet with his American counterpart this week. We do not exclude contacts between the ministers of Russia and France. […] I can say that a substantive understanding has been reached on the need to continue the dialogue at the ministerial level. It is too early to talk regarding specific plans to host summits [presidenciales]”said the spokesman.
