A recent poll points to Russian President Vladimir Putin as the culprit for the recent rise in US gasoline prices.

On March 11, The price of gasoline reached a new historical record in USA: $4,331 per gallonaccording to the American Automobile Association (AAA).

Fuel prices began to rise before the conflict between Russia and Ukraine began on February 24; however, they have since accelerateddue to the efforts of several countries to stop giving income to Russia and they cannot continue paying for the war.

Poll: Putin Blamed for Rising US Gas Prices

A significant majority of Americans blame Russian President Vladimir Putin for the recent spike in US gasoline prices.but nearly as many blame oil companies, according to a new ABC News/Ipsos poll.

When asked regarding the considerable increase in fuel prices in 2022, more than two-thirds of those surveyed blamed Putin (71%), as well as the oil companies (68%). On the other hand, only 8% found the Russian president free of blame in this matter.

Most respondents also blamed President Joe Biden (51%) and to the policies of the Democratic Party (52%) due to high fuel prices. In contrast, only a third of those surveyed blamed the policies of the Republican Party and a quarter blamed former President Donald Trump.

On the other hand, a significant majority of Americans (68%) said they disapprove of how Biden is handling the situationwhile only 20% considered him innocent due to the increase in gasoline prices in the country.

Despite rising gas prices, half of those surveyed said paying more hasn’t caused them financial hardship; Nevertheless, 21% said it is causing them “serious” financial hardship. According to AAA, the national average is $4,116 this April 10.

The ABC News/Ipsos poll was conducted April 8-9, in both English and Spanish, among a random national sample of 530 adults with a 4.9% margin of error.
