Putin: BRICS Parliamentary Forum Issue Contributes to Strengthening Pluralism for Development, Security and Justice

This came during the President’s speech at the plenary session of the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, which took place at the Tavrid Palace in St. Petersburg. Putin welcomed the participants, including the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Tullia Eckson, whose participation he said he saw as “a sign of support for the innovative partnership between representatives of the legislative authorities of the countries of the South and East of the world, and indeed all countries interested in constructive interaction and cooperation, and their initiatives on current issues on the international agenda.”

“The issue of the current forum is the role of parliaments in strengthening multilateralism for just global development and security,” Putin continued. “This is a very important issue that speaks for itself and confirms the nature of the fundamental global transformations taking place on our planet today.” The President noted that open discussions, direct conversations between representatives of people with each other, are fully consistent with the philosophy itself, the principles of the BRICS worldview, taking into account the interests of others, relying on democracy in international relations, respecting sovereignty, and the right to independent development of all.

“Today, parliamentary dialogue, including within the BRICS framework, has become more important than ever. After all, you, as representatives of the interests of your peoples, defenders of their political and national will, are acutely aware of the real demands, public mood and real needs of millions, and one can say without exaggeration, of billions of people on our planet,” he said.

On July 11-12, St. Petersburg, Russia, will host the 10th Parliamentary Forum of the BRICS member states.
