The Ukrainian Border Guard Service has released a video in which one of its fighters says that Ukraine has captured “a strategically important place” in the direction of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region.
Russia’s Defense Ministry, however, claimed in its weekly briefing on Friday that its army carried out nine major attacks using long-range precision weapons and drones in Ukraine from September 24 to 29.
Moscow also says Ukraine has withdrawn its troops from Rabotino – south of Zaporizhzhia.
Ex-Wagner commander Troschew gets a high post in the Russian army
The Russian president has commissioned a high-ranking commander from the Wagner Group to take over the leadership of the volunteer units fighting in Ukraine – and to further build them up. Like Vladimir Putin and the late Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin, 61-year-old Andrei Troschew (also: Troshev) comes from St. Petersburg. The head of state received Troshev in the Kremlin on September 29th together with the Russian deputy defense minister.
Andrei Troshev is a retired colonel, former Interior Ministry agent and veteran of the Soviet-Afghan War, the Second Chechen War and the Russian military intervention in the Syrian Civil War.
According to experts, the decision represents the Kremlin’s plan to integrate the leading figures of the Wagner Group into the army following the death of their boss.
Ukraine remembers Babyn Yar massacre
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj commemorated the victims of the Babyn Yar (also: Babi Yar) massacre in Kiev on Friday. It is the 82nd anniversary of the murder of almost 34,000 Jews by the German Wehrmacht during World War II.
