Atlanta, USA (CNN) – Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the “OPEC +” agreement with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in a phone call Friday, according to a press release from the Kremlin.
The Kremlin’s statement on the contact between the two parties said: “Satisfaction was expressed with the level of coordination within the framework of OPEC + in order to ensure the stability of oil markets around the world.”
The “OPEC Plus” group includes the group of oil exporting countries and Russia, with the aim of coordinating between these countries on crude oil production.
The Saudi side made contact, as they discussed more cooperation in the fields of trade, economy, investment and energy.
Putin and Mohammed bin Salman discussed the crisis situation in the Middle East and the efforts made by Russia and Saudi Arabia to find solutions in this regard, according to the statement.
They last spoke at the end of January, when the Kremlin said the same issues were discussed “to ensure the stability of the global oil market”.
And in October 2022, OPEC+ agreed to cut production by two million barrels per day, despite the objections of the United States, which said such a move would raise oil prices and help Russia continue financing its war in Ukraine.
The price of benchmark Brent crude has fallen slightly since then, to around $80 a barrel.
