Recalling the need to put in place “resilient and socially just” food systems was the aim of the action which took place in Brussels on Wednesday, from 4:30 p.m., departing from Place du Luxembourg. Organized by the “Good food good farming” alliance, of which Greenpeace is a member, the mobilization aims to encourage European political leaders to keep the promises of the European Green Deal (“Green Deal”).

Around a hundred people gathered at Place du Luxembourg to call on political representatives of the European Union to “put the subject of food systems on the table”. Under the slogan “We can’t eat promises”, organizers urge the EU to successfully transition agricultural systems, notably through the “Farm to Fork” strategy. » (“Farm to fork” or “F2F” in European jargon), which aims to promote a “fair, healthy and environmentally friendly food system”.

During the action, hundreds of letters written by EU citizens were also hand-delivered to European parliamentarians by the demonstrators, to demand an “ambitious but also economically fair transition for farmers”.

The procession of demonstrators then went to the agro-industrial lobbies (including Bayer) which, according to the associations involved, “attack the legislation supposed to operationalize the objectives of the European Green Deal”.

“The transition of food systems is a necessity for the agricultural world but also for health, climate and biodiversity”, underlined the different organizations of the “Good food good farming” alliance, active in particular in the areas of food, climate protection, health and the fight once morest poverty. Among them, we find among others the ASBL CNCD-11.11.11, the Climate Coalition, the Mouvement d’Action Paysanne (MAP), “Agroecology in Action” and even Greenpeace Belgium.
