Archyde: Welcome, Coco and Aryna, to this special edition of “Archyde Exclusive.” We’re thrilled to have you both joining us from the comfort of Tennis Australia’s custom cinema room.
Coco Gauff: Thanks for having us.It’s a bit surreal watching ourselves on this giant screen!
Aryna Sabalenka: Yeah, it’s so different from sitting courtside. It’s a nice change, though!
Archyde: Let’s dive right in. Aryna, you’re the reigning Australian Open champion. What was it like watching yoru victory match unfold on that big screen?
Aryna Sabalenka: It was amazing. I mean, I remember every point, every rally from that match, but seeing it like this, with the crowd cheer… it was like reliving every emotion all over again.It was intense!
Archyde: Coco, you’ve had some memorable matches Down Under as well. how did it feel to watch your debut match against Venus Williams in this new setting?
Coco Gauff: It was really cool. I’ve watched that match so many times, but seeing it hear, with everyone around me watching too… it was almost like I was back on the court. It brought back all those nerves,all that determination.
Archyde: And we saw that determination out there. You were barely 15 at the time, yet you were so confident.
Coco Gauff: (laughs) I mean, I’ve always been pretty confident in my game. I really believed I could beat her that day. It was disbelief afterwards, more than anything. I didn’t expect to win that match, not like that, not against Venus.
Archyde: speaking of expectations, Aryna, you’ve had some up-and-down moments in Melbourne. How did it feel to see those highs and lows play out in the cinema?
Aryna Sabalenka: It’s funny, you know? you see yourself struggling, you see yourself picking yourself up again, and you think, ‘Wow, that’s really me.’ It’s strange, but it’s also really encouraging. It reminds me that, yeah, I can be emotional, I can struggle, but I can also come back.
archyde: It’s engaging to see the personal growth, too. Watching vintage footage from past Australian Opens must be quite the experience.
Coco Gauff: Oh, yeah. It’s like looking at old pictures of yourself… you see how much you’ve changed, you see what you’ve learned. It’s humbling, in a way.
Aryna Sabalenka: Absolutely. It’s like looking at your own history. My journey here has been a bit of a rollercoaster, but it’s made me who I am today.
Archyde: Both of you have come so far. What have thes “Cinema Sessions” taught you about yourselves and your journeys?
Coco Gauff: I guess it’s just reminded me how much I love competing. I love being out there, I love the fight. No matter what happens, I’m gonna keep fighting.
Aryna Sabalenka: For me, it’s been about resilience. I’ve seen myself go through some tough times, but I’ve also seen myself come back stronger. That’s something I want to keep doing, on and off the court.
