ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Albert Pujols hit his 702nd career home run and tied Babe Ruth for second all-time in RBIs Sunday, but the Pittsburgh Pirates outscored the St. Louis Cardinals 7-5.
Ben Gamel and Bryan Reynolds homered for Pittsburgh, which has won four of six meetings. Chase DeJong (6-2) got the win for the Pirates.
Yadier Molina and Pujols, who will retire at the end of the season, were recognized in a 46-minute ceremony before the final home game of the regular season.
Pujols had a two-run double in the first inning and Molina flied home to left for 3-0.
Pujols, 42, followed up with his 23rd homer of the season in the third inning to tie the game at 4. Pujols is fourth on the all-time home run list behind Babe Ruth (714), Hank Aaron (755) and Barry Bonds. (762).
He is tied for second with Ruth in RBIs (2,214) behind Aaron (2,297).
For the Pirates, the Dominicans Oneil Cruz d 4-2 with two runs scored, Rodolfo Castro 4-0. The Venezuelan Diego Castillo 1-0.
For the Cardinals, Albert Pujols 2-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs. The Venezuelan Juan Yepez 3-2. Puerto Rican Yadier Molina 1-0 with an RBI.
