Driven by the leaks on the Bari investigation, the center-right is trying to regain its Puglia stronghold. The council groups of Fratelli d’Italia, Forza Italia, Lega and La Puglia Tomorrow are calling for the resignation of governor Michele Emiliano. A motion of no confidence is also ready, which, as announced in a conference held yesterday, will be tabled tomorrow morning. According to the opposition, the center-left does not have the numbers to govern in the Region following the farewells to the Dem group by Michele Mazzarano and Anita Maurodinoia, the resignation of the “Con” group leader Giuseppe Tupputi and above all the exit of the M5S, called by the Salvinians to sign the document presented by the minority. Adding fuel to the fire was the famous text message from the former president of the regional Arti agency Alfonso Pisicchio. Michele Laforgia, candidate of the Five Star Movement for the Municipality of Bari, confirms the existence of the ultimatum message in which the governor allegedly told the member of his council “either you leave or I’ll kick you out”. According to his version, told to the microphones of Rai Radio 1, he would have spoken to him regarding it a few hours before the arrest and he would have been “surprised”. Statement that ends up dividing once more.
If the mayor of Bari Antonio Decaro, in fact, can rejoice at his placement on the PD list in Brussels, the same is not true for Emiliano, now increasingly abandoned both by the party and by those allies who allowed him victory in the last round, as well highlighted by Conte. Therefore, it’s not just the usual Renzi who says that “there isn’t a dossier in which he hasn’t done damage.” A clear message, in this sense, also comes from the Apulian capital, where the president of the Democratic Party Titti De Simone resigns from office to support the profile chosen by the M5S. Which is why the governor is trying to immediately play the reshuffle card, the only way to mend things with Elly Schlein, considering the willingness that he would have had on the part of some councilors to hand over the delegations. In the first meeting, held yesterday, meanwhile, nothing was done. Indeed, such a hypothesis would have fueled dormant discontent.
The divisions on the left make the path downhill for a center-right that is already starting to think regarding post-Emiliano. There are those who even hypothesize a return of Minister Fitto, due to a government reshuffle, and those who instead launch, in a blue key, the undersecretary Francesco Paolo Sisto. However, there are several candidates for the role. Much will depend on the Roman balance within the coalition. Who, however, continues his campaign without hesitation is Fabio Romito, candidate for mayor of Bari, who exploits Decaro’s Democratic commitments and the discontent due to the investigations and the consequent justicialist Grillina strategy, to take back the city and make it less difficult towards the climb towards the Region: «Puglia deserves a shake-up from a legislative point of view. A highly anticipated measure like the Omnibus is slow to arrive in the Chamber because the majority loses pieces.”
