Litigating high-profile cases such as that of Mexican drug trafficker Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán and that of Jeffrey Epstein, a billionaire associated with a child trafficking network, as well as undergoing bariatric surgery, were determining factors for Puerto Rican lawyer Mariel Colón Miró, to shake off certain fears and dare to take the step that he had always dreamed of in music.
He did it at the age of 30 and in the regional Mexican genre.
“My father was the musical director of artists like Lucecita (Benítez), Chucho Avellanet, so in my house listening to reggaeton was not allowed. One of my favorite singers is Ana Gabriel and what does she sing? Rancheras, mariachi, very short vein music. I decide to go down that line, number one, because it’s what I was used to and it’s my musical influences. Number two, the fact that I am the lawyer for high-ranking Mexican figures, and I have many followers from Mexico. And I wanted to give them my music, my talent and I wanted to sing for them. Besides, I love corridos and I enjoy them”, said Colón, who launched the market with the single La Abogada.
In addition to the fact that his parents insisted that he complete a professional degree, he walked away from music because of the fears that he says he overcame last year, when he underwent bariatric surgery to lose weight.
“I am 30 years old and I said, if I don’t do this now, I will never do it. And the more it’s going to scare me —apart from what people, the judges, my colleagues might think by not taking me professionally seriously because I was doing this—… the more it scared me that I would die 30 years from now without having done it. done,” he told THE SPOKESMAN.

He assured that it is a transition and not a change of profession because “Mariel is not going to stop continuing to be a lawyer. It’s just that Mariel has a new facet in her life, which is singing. And I will continue to do both. I believe that both professions can coexist”.
Being on stage and in the courtroom cause him a “different” fear and which he is grateful for, since the day he loses it, he understands that he must retire. He reiterates that both music and law “require incredible seriousness and professionalism.”
His musical career begins with La Abogada, a song that reflects his experience in the profession and how his career has influenced his personal life. As a second cut, she puts into consideration No other has been born, in which she tells the story of a strong woman, who makes the decision to close the door on a toxic relationship.
His plans are to release a single every 30 to 45 days with a music video, which will serve as a prelude to an EP.
On the other hand, he is aware and assumes that it will be challenging to distance himself from the name of El Chapo.
“It doesn’t bother me that they know me as El Chapo’s lawyer. If they want to keep calling me El Chapo’s lawyer for the rest of my life, I have no problem. On the contrary, that was the case that she made for me and thanks to that case I am where I am. So, I feel nothing but pride, immense pride, ”she acknowledged.
