Puebla: Elevated Drinking Water Tank Collapses in Texmelucan

A newly opened elevated drinking water tank collapsed in the municipality of San Martín Texmelucan, in Puebla, crushing a series of citizens and causing the death of two people in the area where the work of more than 2 million pesos collapsed.

According to the citizens, it was surprising and immediate that a noise was heard at the top of the elevated drinking water tank located in the auxiliary board of San Baltazar Temaxcalacthe exact moment when the metallic and brick structure might not withstand the pressure of the incoming water and collapsed, letting the construction material and water fall on some civilians, vehicles and buildings.

After the fall, a large number of citizens from the area gathered in the area to try to help the injured, as they claimed that there was a group of people trapped under the remains of the tank.

After the arrival of paramedics, Civil Protection and police personnel who worked to rescue those affected, a total of two people were reported dead and one man injuredwhich was transferred to a hospital in the area for proper care.

Shortly following, personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) attended the area of ​​the collapse where they began the corresponding proceedings, removal of the body and necessary investigations to determine responsibilities for what happened.

Work was inaugurated last Monday

Last Monday, September 12, the Municipal President of San Martin Texmelucan, Norma Layón, delivered the rehabilitation of the elevated drinking water tank in the auxiliary board of San Baltazar Temaxcalac, with an investment of 2 million 372 thousand pesos, this following several years in which the auxiliary board did not have drinking water. The mayor assured that the work was guaranteed for at least 20 years.

Hours following the collapse of the elevated tank, the municipal president, Norma Layón, went to the scene, an action that was rejected by the civilians of the auxiliary board, who rejected the presence of the mayor, who was made to leave among a series of insults and attacks.
