PUD clarified that the TSJ did not summon them to be present at the expert appraisal of the electoral records
  • The opposition bloc reiterated its request for the publication of the minutes as well as the subsequent carrying out of impartial audits.

The Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) claimed not to have been informed by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) to send witnesses to the process of reviewing the physical minutes of the presidential elections.

The review process was carried out on August 18 at the National Electoral Council (CNE), as part of a process of validation of the election results carried out by the TSJ.

Through a message posted on X’s PUD accountThe opposition bloc described the review led by the president of the TSJ, Caryslia Rodríguez, as “supposed expert opinion.”

“The political parties Mesa de la Unidad Democrática, Movimiento Por Venezuela and Un Nuevo Tiempo were not informed nor were they present at the CNE during the alleged expert appraisal that the TSJ claims to be doing on the electoral material,” the PUD stated on August 19.

Rodríguez went to the CNE, along with international experts and observers, to validate that the electoral records match those received in the database of the national totaling centers of the electoral body.

“We demand that the CNE publish the minutes of the electoral process of July 28 and carry out independent audits of them,” the opposition bloc added on its social media account.

The PUD’s request is added to that made by the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS)as well as more than twenty countries and the European Union, which are calling for the impartial publication and verification of the electoral records.

PUD legal advisor warns about TSJ decision

Perkins Rocha, legal advisor to the PUD, warned that there could be a “greater social conflict” in view of the decision that he believes the TSJ will make on the validation of the presidential election results given by the CNE.

These results, offered on August 2 in a second CNE bulletin, confirmed that Nicolás Maduro won the elections in Venezuela, with 6,408,844 votes and 96.87% of the votes counted.

The president of the CNE, Elvis Amoroso, said that Edmundo González managed to obtain 5,326,104 votes (43.18%). However, the Command with Venezuela rejects these results, because they have the 84% of physical voting records which give victory to the opposition candidate by a wide margin.

Through his X account, Rocha called on citizens to prepare to face an institutional crisis, such as warned the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrellwho stated that “if Maduro insists on saying that he has won and does not want to understand that, for the international community, without verification there is no acceptance of results, Venezuela could enter into a serious crisis.”
