Public works got the work of eight; Two buildings for the same office in Kottayam

Kottayam: Two buildings were tried to be constructed simultaneously for the Town Planning Office in Kottayam. 2 multi-storied buildings started working simultaneously within one and a half kilometers. It was when the bill came to change that the officials came to know regarding the mistake. With that, the construction of a building was stopped. But already regarding 2 crore rupees have been spent for the construction of the building.

The revenue department has given an explanation for the failure in the construction. The department informed that the cause of the problems was the failure of the office of the Chief Engineer of Public Works (PWD). But PWD responded that the reason for the error was wrong entry of the head of account.

On the basis of the suggestion of the revenue department, PWD awarded the contract and started the construction of the building. One building was near the Kottayam Collectorate and the other one and a half kilometers away near the Thirunakkara Mini Civil Station. When the bill for both the works reached the PWD finance department at the same time, the officials realized that they were being constructed for the same office.

Then the construction of the building at Tirunakkara was stopped. After deciding to stop the construction work, the contractor approached the court. Then the contractor received more than half of the amount. Apart from the planning office, the taluk offices were also included in the building at Thurunakkara, where the work has been stopped. At present, the District Collector informed that a revised estimate has been submitted for the building excluding the Town Planning Office.
