The 18 buses, with a capacity of more than 60 passengers each, are part of a batch of 20 units recently supplied by the Ministry of Transport to the Provincial Government of Huíla and were delivered to the operators as credit.
With the recent entry into operation of 18 buses, the municipality of Lubango now has 13 routes compared to the previous 10 on which passengers were transported.
In addition to the Rainbow/Quilemba Central routes; Mutundo/Rainbow; Tchioco/Mutundo and Rio Nangombe/Arco-Íris, the Arco-Íris/Mapunda routes were opened; Eiva/Centrality of Quilemba and Arimba/Arco-Íris.
The director of the provincial Transport, Traffic and Urban Mobility office, Fernando Alberto, acknowledged that, taking into account the demographic growth of the municipality of Lubango, the public transport available is still not satisfactory.
“We know that the means are not enough and we are aware of this. We have many schools in the Centrality of Quilemba and these buses that we now receive will minimize the difficulties that are still experienced throughout the municipality of Lubango”, he highlighted.
On the other hand, the person in charge said that the office he heads will also reinforce inspection services for operators regarding compliance with schedules.
According to him, the provincial Transport, Traffic and Urban Mobility office has been receiving numerous complaints from public transport users.
“We have been receiving complaints regarding various issues, including compliance with timetables. The opening hours stipulated by the National Land Transport Agency are from 7am to 10pm, so anyone who observes an operator not complying with this regulation can send their complaints to our office”, he warned.
