The culmination of a week of union action, strikes will be carried out on Friday in all sectors of the public service. The unions, which act partially as a common front, denounce the underfunding, the lack of personnel and the too low attractiveness of the working conditions in the public service.
At the end of a week of actions carried out as a union common front, the CGSP is organizing a general strike in all sectors of the public service this Friday. The CSC and the SLFP have not called a general strike, but their affiliates will join the movement in many sectors.
“A society cannot exist without public services. But these are facing increasing pressure”, deplore the unions in the flyer they wrote as a common front. “Due to lack of investment and shortage of staff in almost all departments, it is increasingly difficult to continue providing quality services. Although civil servants are doing their best day and night.”
The national strike decreed by the CGSP will begin this Thursday at 10:00 p.m. and will end 24 hours later. In several sectors, including public transport, strike notices have also been filed as a common front.
Many disruptions are expected. On the rail, the train offer will be limited from Thursday evening. The SNCB journey planner will take this into account, but commuters should update it regularly. The Tec, Stib and De Lijn networks will also operate at a slower pace.
The strike will also affect local, regional, community and federal administrations, certain schools, nurseries, cleaning services and even prisons. Further disruptions are also to be expected at bpost.
