In continuation of her announced career by pursuing banks, the Public Prosecutor of Appeal in Mount Lebanon, Judge Ghada Aoun, decided today, Tuesday, May 9, to prosecute the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Bank Med, the former Minister, Raya Al-Hassan.

Hassan changed
For the second day in a row, Aoun practiced her judicial work normally, and followed all the judicial sessions that had previously been scheduled, especially following the issuance of the decision to dismiss her from service in the middle of last week.

In fact, Aoun is trying to assure the Lebanese judiciary of her insistence on practicing her work in the judiciary, and to prove to public opinion that she will not take the decision to dismiss her seriously, and will never abide by it. Aoun came in the morning to the Palace of Justice in Baabda, to follow up on the judicial session that she had previously set for the date of this day, Tuesday, May 9. As the chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Bank of the Mediterranean, Raya Al-Hassan, was supposed to appear before Aoun.

Money Laundering
According to Al-Modon’s information, Aoun decided to prosecute Raya Al-Hassan for the crime of money laundering and referred the file to the first investigating judge in Mount Lebanon, following Al-Hassan refused to attend her session scheduled for today.

According to sources following up on Aoun’s sessions: “Raia Al-Hassan refused to attend her session, and her legal representative contented herself with attending the Palace of Justice in Baabda. But she did not present the documents that Aoun previously requested. concerned with auditing these accounts, which Al-Hassan rejected.

On the other hand, Al-Modon tried to communicate with lawyer Osama Salman, Raya Al-Hassan’s legal representative, but he refused to provide any information. He also denounced this decision, saying: “I am not aware of this decision yet, and I cannot provide any information regarding the measures that my client may take. I will contact her to follow up on this matter.”

According to some sources from inside the Palace of Justice in Baabda, the charged atmosphere dominated throughout the session, especially following Al-Hassan refused to attend the session, which prompted Aoun to refuse this matter, and her insistence on the importance of Al-Hassan attending her session to provide the required documents and information.

The sources confirmed that Aoun would not be satisfied with the presence of the legal representative only, and also stressed the need for her to obtain all the documents that she previously requested. According to the sources, Aoun “decided to pursue all banks that would refrain from lifting bank secrecy and would not surrender.”

In response to Al-Modon’s question regarding the charged atmosphere that dominated the session, Al-Hassan Al-Qanuni’s representative only said: “The session was normal and similar to any investigation session that takes place inside the palaces of justice.”

constant pursuit
This is not the first time that Aoun has pursued the Bank of the Mediterranean. In the past years, Aoun has summoned many chairmen of the boards of directors of Lebanese banks in complaints of illegal enrichment, money laundering, violation of the monetary and credit law, and others.. And in 2022, Aoun issued judicial decisions, banning chairmen of boards of directors Banks from travel, including former Minister Raya Al-Hassan, and former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Bank, Muhammad Ahmed Al-Hariri.

Finally, there are those who support Aoun’s steps and consider her to be a brave judge fighting corruption, and others consider that everything she is doing serves the Free Patriotic Movement and its agenda. In both cases, the primary goal of every citizen will remain to know the truth and achieve justice.
