Public Health intensifies digitalization of the system for consultations and delivery of medicines
Asunción, IP Agency.- Within the policy established by the Government is the advancement of the digitalization of the public health system and the reduction of administrative processes, emphasized Minister María Teresa Barán. In addition to the Health Information System (HIS), which already operates in 372 health establishments nationwide, and in this last month was implemented in 25 new centers, the institution works on the registration of diabetic and hypertensive patients for consultations and delivery of medicines.
“As a public policy, what we are looking for now is that diabetic and hypertensive patients consult once every three months, but that they can come every month to pick up their medications without the need to consult,” he explained. This is one of the strategies to avoid long waits for consultations on chronic non-communicable diseases.
Within the Ministry of Public Health there is the Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases Program, which includes diabetes and hypertension. People with diabetes and hypertension are two diseases that cannot be cured, but must be controlled, Barán stressed.

Around 950 Family Health Units

And along these lines, “one of the most important challenges is that each family health care unit installed in different parts of the country has medicines,” he expressed, mentioning that the Government seeks to ensure that people in their community can access to basic services and can pick up their medications.
Currently there are around 950 Family Health Units (UAF) in different parts of the country, but regarding 1,750 are required to achieve 100% coverage, said the State official.
This is a strategy established 15 years ago by the Ministry of Public Health with the support of several national and international entities. The challenge as public health is to reduce the gap in order to have the desired universal access to health and so that people can have a clinic close to their home with the strengthening of Primary Health Care, he said.

Savings close to USD 90 million

On the other hand, he mentioned that for the first time in the history of the Ministry of Public Health, a note has been sent to drug suppliers to correct the high costs, with which the current Government achieved a reduction of USD of almost 90 million.
