As part of a collaboration initiated in 2002 which aimed to establish an epidemiological surveillance program for RATP employees, Public Health France and the Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens (RATP) are continuing their partnership in order to complete existing results on the state of health of RATP agents and former agents through independent scientific support from the agency to the RATP prevention and occupational health service. This new collaboration will focus in particular on mortality by occupation, cardiovascular diseases and underground railway enclosures.
What types of epidemiological studies are planned within the company?
Over the next three years, several studies will be carried out. They concern:
the description of mortality, both overall and by profession, over the period from 1980 to 2022, compared to that of the Ile-de-France population; the updating of the employment-exposure matrix to particles in underground railway enclosures using new data particularly in the field of maintenance; the comparison of the cardio-respiratory mortality of agents according to their exposure defined using the employment-exposure matrix indicated previously; the description of the blood pressure of agents according to their profession using data from occupational health medical records.
The results of these studies will be returned to RATP agents and will be the subject of public communication.
A partnership to strengthen prevention actions among RATP agents
The partnership also aims to relay and deploy prevention and health promotion campaigns from Public Health France (for example, deployment of Months Without Tobacco) among RATP agents.
In addition, Public Health France will provide support to the prevention and occupational health service for the registration of its prevention actions in the French Register of effective/promising interventions in prevention and health promotion.
What is the role of Public Health France in this epidemiological monitoring?
Public Health France will provide scientific and technical support to the RATP prevention and occupational health service in carrying out the various epidemiological studies. This includes in particular methodological advice during the development of protocols, the provision of reference data to compare the state of health of agents within the RATP to that of the French population, as well as support for interpretation and dissemination of results. Our participation is part of our regulatory mission (article L1413-7 paragraph 4 of the Public Health Code) of setting up, in companies, epidemiological surveillance in connection in particular with prevention and occupational health services, without no financial exchange between Santé Publique France and RATP.
