PTA issued an important clarification regarding the closure of X

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a clarification regarding the accessibility of social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in Pakistan.

For the past several months, users in Pakistan have been facing extreme difficulties in accessing X. PTA has today clarified that X is not accessible in Pakistan.

Today, during the hearing of petitions against the closure of X in the Sindh High Court, the PTA’s lawyer confirmed the withdrawal of the notification regarding the closure of the platform, on which the court sought the official position regarding the closure.

During the hearing, PTA’s lawyer Ahsan Imam told the court that in the petition in which I am a lawyer, the notification regarding the closure of X has been withdrawn.

On this, the court inquired that if the letter was withdrawn, X was restored? Petitioner Mueez Jafari said that access to Twitter has not been possible yet.

The court said that there is no more notification of closure of X which means that X has been restored. Lawyer PTA Saad Siddiqui said that I have no information about the withdrawal of the notification.

The court said that the PTA has hired a separate lawyer for each application. This is wrong, one lawyer was informed and not the other.

Mueez Jafari, the petitioner’s lawyer, said that on March 28, the federal government submitted a reply that X is working but the ban on X has not been lifted yet, no social media site can be closed without any reason.

The Deputy Attorney General said that X was closed on intelligence information, to which the court said that you should give reasons for the closure of X.

Lawyer Mueez Jafari said that a contempt of court petition has also been filed but X is closed despite court orders, later the court adjourned the hearing for two weeks for the official stand regarding the closure of X in this petition.
