PT filed a request with the TCE of SP for it to comment on alleged illegalities in the Sabesp privatization process initiated by Governor Tarcísio de Freitas edit
247 — The PT has filed a request with the State Court of Auditors (TCE) of São Paulo to issue an opinion on alleged illegalities in the Sabesp privatization process initiated by Governor Tarcísio de Freitas on Monday (10), informed the CNN.
State deputy Emídio de Sousa addressed a document to attorney general Thiago Pinheiro Lima, stating that there was no “prior legislative authorization” or compliance with the procedures determined by the Law on Public Procurement and Administrative Contracts when signing the decree authorizing the contracting of studies for the privatization of the state.
The document also criticizes how the studies were contracted, through unenforceability of bidding.
In March, the PT had already made a similar move with the TCE to suspend the hiring of consultants for the structuring of the sale of another state-owned company, Empresa Metropolitana de Águas e Energia SA (EMAE), which was complied with by the Public Ministry with the TCE .
This is one of the many difficulties that Tarcísio faces in moving ahead with the privatization of Sabesp, in the face of opposition from the PT, TCE advisors and state mayors. The governor’s expectation is that the contracted study proves the viability of privatization.
