Eight members of the jury in the trial for the 2016 attacks are currently being monitored psychologically, according to figures from the FPS Justice relayed on Wednesday by the editorial staff of Ochtend, the VRT radio program.

For approximately a year, members of the jury of an assize trial have been able, at the end of the trial, to request psychological assistance, in the form of a maximum of 10 sessions at the expense of the Court, explained on the airwaves a spokesperson for the SPF, Sharon Beavis. Justice of course only has a general idea of the complaints reported. “Among jurors, it is mainly questions of stress, or complaints linked to feelings of depression or anxiety.”

The possibility of this “free” ride is relatively recent, and communication on this subject only started a few months ago. In total, 11 ex-jurors took the plunge, including 8, therefore, coming from the mega-trial concluded in mid-September. The FPS expects these figures to take off in the future, when this assistance becomes more widely known.

Members of justice personnel, such as guards and magistrates, can also benefit from it, and do so more. “We have already opened 91 files in this area, in 2023,” specifies the spokesperson at the VRT microphone.
