As of December 31, 2022, 1,338 public hospitals, 658 private non-profit establishments and 980 private clinics make up the French hospital landscape, the number of geographical sites of which continues to slowly decrease.
The reception capacities of these 2,976 health establishments are divided between full hospitalization (374,000 beds) and partial hospitalization (85,000 places). In 2022, the decline in the number of beds able to accommodate patients will increase (-1.8%, following -1.4% in 2021) and remains faster than before the health crisis (-0.9% per year on average). On the other hand, the number of places continues to increase (+3.1%), at a more sustained pace than before the crisis (+2.5% per year). The increase continues to be higher for medium stays (+5.8%) than for short stays (+4.2%); it remains low in psychiatrists (+0.3%)
In 2022, home hospitalization care capacity will increase by 1.6%, following two years of strong growth (+6.8% in 2021 and +10.5% in 2020) marked by the context of the health crisis. . They thus represent 7.9% of full hospitalization capacity for short and medium stays (excluding psychiatry), compared to 2.1% in 2006.
After a clear increase in 2020 (+3.6%) in response to the health crisis, the number of critical care beds continues to decline (-1.7%). In particular, intensive care capacity decreases by 4.7% in 2022, but it remains 5.1% higher than it was at the end of 2019.
In all disciplines, the decline in the number of beds will be more marked in 2022 than the two previous years. It is in MCO that it is most notable (-2.0%, following -1.9% in 2021). Next comes psychiatry (-1.7%, following -0.9% in 2021), where a significant part of the decline comes from the public sector (-1,000 beds, or -3.1%) and mainly from hospital centers. specialized (-800 beds, or -4.0%). In private clinics, on the contrary, the number of psychiatric beds increased by 200 beds.
