PSVR2 can play Steam games, PlayStation VR2 program is now available

If you have a PlayStation VR2 headset at home, you will soon be able to use it for purposes beyond connecting to the PS5. Sony Interactive Entertainment has just released the PlayStation VR2 program on the Steam platform, allowing users to connect the PS VR2 to their computers and play Steam VR games or applications later in August.

The key component of the PlayStation VR2 program is the computer driver for PS VR2, along with firmware updates for the PS VR2 headset and Sense controller. Additionally, this program enables users to configure various settings for PS VR2 on their computers, including using the SteamVR console to adjust screen brightness and play space for PS VR2. To connect PS VR2 to a computer for Steam VR games, simply downloading and installing the PlayStation VR2 program is not sufficient. Users also need to purchase a PlayStation VR2 PC converter priced at HK$468, as well as a DisplayPort data cable that meets the DisplayPort 1.4 specification.

PS VR2 users must also pay attention to the minimum system requirements for their computers, which include using a 64-bit Windows 10/11 system, a processor of at least Intel Core i5-7600 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100, a minimum of 8GB RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or higher (including NVIDIA RTX series), or an AMD Radeon RX 5500XT or higher (or Radeon RX 6500XT or higher) graphics card. The computer must have DisplayPort 1.4 output, as well as USB and Bluetooth 4.0 or newer capabilities.

Additionally, PS VR2 users should note that some features, such as headset feedback, tactile feedback, eye tracking, HDR, and adaptive triggers, will not be available on computers. The 3D sound effects will utilize SteamVR sound technology instead of Sony’s Tempest 3D AudioTech. However, users can still enjoy the PS VR2’s 4K visual effects, a 110-degree field of view, finger touch detection, basic vibration feedback, and perspective images. Some supported games will also feature foveated rendering and 3D sound effects. The PlayStation VR2 program will be released on August 6th and will be available for use the following day.
