PSV with Teze as substitute far too strong for mediocre RKC

PSV started the new Eredivisie season excellently with a 5-1 victory over fellow provincial team RKC. The Eindhoven club was a lot too big for the Waalwijkers, who left a bad impression. PSV seems to continue the line of the previous championship year.

The Eredivisie started for PSV and RKC where it ended. The poster of the last round of the season 23-24, was the first match of the season 24-25. And just like almost three months ago, the Eindhoven club was much better.

PSV wasted no time and took the lead within ten minutes. Johan Bakayoko cut inside and shot into the far corner. Not much later, Malik Tillman seemed to make it 2-0. But that goal was disallowed for offside. Nevertheless, RKC also showed itself in the opening minutes with two good chances.

Weak RKC, swinging PSV
It was a matter of time before more Eindhoven goals would follow. PSV played like last season very strong and RKC was very weak. The Waalwijk club gave away a lot of space and the Eindhoven team took advantage of that.

First it was Jerdy Schouten who could make it 2-0 on the edge of the box. Perhaps more poignant was the space Tillman was given to make it 3-0 from a distance. The American made the most beautiful goal of the evening. After the break, substitute Hirving Lozano made it 4-0.

Anyone who wants to draw a premature conclusion will find that RKC will have a hard time again and PSV will continue where it ended last season. Just like last season, the Eindhoven club already has a lead after one round on Feyenoord, who earlier in the day did not get further than a 1-1 draw at home against Willem II.

Jordan Theses
And then there was the story about Jordan Teze. The defender initially refused to play for PSV, but changed his mind on Friday evening by making himself available. The right back started on the bench, but was allowed to come on under a small whistle concert.

The defender didn’t seem to be fully alert yet, as he was involved in the only goal conceded that evening. He headed a ball away poorly, after which goalkeeper Walter Benítez also missed the mark. Richard van der Venne profited from PSV’s mistakes.

However, the home crowd was able to cheer once more as Lozano scored his second of the evening to make it 5-1.

Comments
Afterwards, Peter Bosz was satisfied with what he had seen. “I saw the sharpness of last season again. Maybe that’s exactly what a situation like this surrounding Jordan Teze is needed for. I’m really sick of that goal. We were lucky that we didn’t go behind.”

That was something that Henk Fraser could particularly enjoy. The RKC trainer was quite positive. “Of course I am not happy with the result, but we certainly created the necessary chances in the opening phase. I am not so negative after this match. But the difference in quality is just very big.”
