Police athletes lost once morest Mühlviertel following a 3-0 lead. The decision once morest Flachgau was made twice in the golden score.

Of all the established Salzburg clubs, PSV Salzburg secured the only place in the final four of the Judo Bundesliga. In the final collection round in Straßwalchen on Saturday, the police athletes had to admit defeat to Mühlviertel 3:4, but with a 4:3 win over the hosts they defended fourth place in the table and thus moved into the final tournament.

“Gone through heaven and hell”

“We went through heaven and hell today, so it was even better that it was enough in the end,” said chairman Ronnie Tiefgraber, relieved. He experienced his first big test of nerves once morest Mühlviertel. After victories by son Andreas, Sebastian Salfinger and Philip Aust, his team was already 3-0 ahead, but had to accept the equalizer. “In the decisive heavyweight fight, Tim Schwarzl really showed off his opponent, but then unfortunately ran into an ippon,” reports Tiefgraber.

Won twice in the Golden Score

So the victory needed for the Final 4 had to be achieved in the Salzburg duel with JU Flachgau. “But then we completely miscalculated the line-up,” says the PSV chairman. Although his team took the lead once more with 3-0, Aust’s victory only came with the golden score. “He was already behind and basically saved himself into extra time with the gong,” reveals Tiefgraber. Miljan Radulj was only supposed to get the fourth point he longed for in the legionnaires’ duel with Krisztián Tóth in the golden score – and that with a penalty score.

In the semifinals without Legionnaires?

“I’m totally exhausted. It was really nerve-wracking today. But the fact that we made it with our last line-up makes me really proud,” says chairman Tiefgraber. With promotion to the Final 4, PSV, which actually started the season with the goal of not being relegated, has now already secured a medal. It is unlikely that it will be anything more than bronze, not only in view of the overwhelming semi-final opponent Galaxy Tigers. “During the final tournament is the Serbian championship, so our legionnaires probably won’t have time once more,” says Tiefgraber.

Pinzgau bottom without points

Sanjindo Bischofshofen narrowly missed out on reaching the final. Although the Pongauers won at home once morest JU Pinzgau 5:2, but since the fight once morest Mühlviertel was lost 1:6, that was only enough for fifth place. JU Flachgau lost both fights in their own hall and had to settle for seventh place. JU Pinzgau was unable to win a duel in the final round either and thus ended the season with no points at the bottom of the table.
