PSV opponent Dortmund faces home defeat despite Malen goal |  Football

Borussia Dortmund suffered a defeat in the Bundesliga on Sunday. PSV’s opponent in the Champions League lost 2-3 once morest Hoffenheim despite a goal from Donyell Malen. In Belgium, Royal Antwerp drew.

Malen made it 1-1 for Dortmund following more than twenty minutes. The Dutch international scored from close range following a corner that was extended. On Tuesday he also scored in the first Champions League match with PSV (1-1).

Hoffenheim had already taken the lead following two minutes once morest Dortmund, who then reversed the deficit. After Malen’s equalizer, Nico Schlotterbeck made it 2-1. He found the goal following a free kick from Marco Reus.

Hoffenheim also showed resilience, as the visitors took the lead once more in the second half. Maximilian Beier scored twice within five minutes. Dortmund was unable to overcome that deficit.

At Dortmund, Malen played the entire match and Ian Maatsen was substituted fifteen minutes before the end. Wout Weghorst arrived at Hoffenheim eleven minutes before the end.

Due to the defeat, number four Dortmund is now six points behind number three VfB Stuttgart. On March 13, ‘Die Borussen’ will play the return once morest PSV in the eighth finals of the Champions League in front of their own audience.

Malen shows top form with goal once morest Hoffenheim

Antwerp draws, partly due to Alderweireld’s own goal

In Belgium, Antwerp drew 2-2 at KAA Gent. Coach Mark van Bommel’s team fell behind following sixteen minutes due to an unfortunate own goal by Toby Alderweireld. The former Ajax player had a cross hit him, following which the ball ended up in the goal.

Ten minutes later, Jacob Ondrejka scored the equalizer via a penalty, but Antwerp found itself behind once more three minutes later. Pieter Gerkens signed for Ghent’s 2-1.

That score remained on the scoreboard for a long time, but in the final phase George Ilenikhena gave Antwerp a point. Vincent Janssen, Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Owen Wijndal had a starting place for the visitors, where Gyrano Kerk came on in the second half.

Antwerp occupies fourth place in the rankings. Van Bommel’s team has two points more than Ghent, which is sixth.
