“On that basis, PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir reminded coach Shin Tae Yong to always finalize the team and tactics in every National Team match, which still has six matches remaining.”

“This is in response to the emergence of strong public criticism of STY’s experiment in the match against China which resulted in the National Team suffering its first defeat,” wrote PSSI in its release.

In the release it was also emphasized that Erick is targeting Shin to be at least fourth in Group C. Currently, Indonesia is in fifth place in the standings.

“I have met with coach Shin [Shin Tae Yong]. “We are seriously talking about the national team’s target of at least being in the top four in the group,” said Erick on Friday (25/10) afternoon.

“It is the coach’s job to prepare the team and tactics as well as possible. Especially in the two home matches against Japan and Saudi Arabia, next month,” he said.

Erick also highlighted the tactics that Shin used in the previous two matches, against Bahrain and China. Especially against China, Shin overhauled the main squad.

As a result, against China, Indonesia lost 1-2. Shin’s changes to the line-up received a lot of attention. Shin was said to be a blunder by the public.

“We must maximize tactically. The stability that is starting to develop must be maintained so that when we play, the tactics are ready and mature,” said the BUMN Minister.

Previously, the public strongly criticized Shin for daring to dismantle the national team squad against China. A number of the game’s key players, such as Thom Haye, did not play the full game.

Eliano Reijnders was even removed by Shin from the list of players. This South Korean man’s brave experiment resulted in his first defeat in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

Erick Thohir’s Warning to Shin Tae Yong: Make or Break in World Cup Qualifications

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia — In a turn of events that feels like the climax of a sports drama you can’t help but binge-watch, PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir handed down a warning to coach Shin Tae Yong of the Indonesian National Team. The message is crystal clear: it’s time to sharpen those tactics for the 2026 World Cup Qualification!

Now, if you’ve been living under a rock or possibly in a 90s sitcom, you might have missed that Thohir’s warning comes on the heels of two coaching sackings in Group C—Australia’s Graham Arnold and Saudi Arabia’s Roberto Mancini. One can’t help but wonder if the Group C coaching jobs come with a complimentary “You’re fired!” button. I mean, who’s next? Are we going to see a “hot potato” game happen with all these coaches?

In an official release, Thohir emphasized the urgency of perfecting team tactics, as if we’re discussing the recipe for the best fried rice, not a football team’s survival! He remarked, “We must maximize tactically. The stability that is starting to develop must be maintained…” Ah, stability! That elusive thing that can feel as rare as a full night’s sleep for a new parent.

But let’s not forget that Shin’s recent “Marilyn Monroe” moment—his decision to overhaul the starting lineup against China—didn’t go down well. They lost 1-2, and the streets are buzzing with fans asking: “Was that a tactical blunder or simply the wrong menu for a dinner party?” If you’re going to experiment, make sure you don’t burn the main course! It’s not just barbecue season—we need to be watching the game, not cooking disasters.

Now, let’s talk expectations. Thohir is eyeing at least a fourth-place finish in Group C, and currently, Indonesia sits at a modest fifth. The sense of urgency is palpable, simply because, as the saying goes, “If you’re not first, you’re last.” And trust me, being last does not come with a medal, just a whole lot of ammunition for critics to load up and fire!

Thohir met with coach Shin and the conversation was about targets, which feels a bit like setting up a date and then reminding your potential partner that they really need to impress you by the end of the night. I’m no football guru, but often the winners are those who play it smart and not just play around!

With the Indonesian team facing home matches against Japan and Saudi Arabia next month, this is a stern reminder that it’s time for Shin to tighten the tactical screws. As the beloved comedian Ricky Gervais would put it, the pressure’s on, and if he can’t stand the heat, it might be time to take a long walk on the pitch…and perhaps not come back!

So, as we gear up for what promises to be a rollercoaster ride in the quest for World Cup qualification, let’s hope coach Shin finds the right balance between innovative strategies and maintaining stability. Or, at the very least, finding a way to dodge the firing squad that appears to be targeting coaches with the accuracy of a hawk!

So, buckle up, football fans! The world of Indonesian football could get even more entertaining—whether we end in glory or hilarity, we’ve got a front-row seat. Stay tuned!

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Chairman of PSSI Erick Thohir has issued a clear warning to the coach of the Indonesian National Team, Shin Tae Yong, emphasizing the urgent need to finalize the team’s tactics ahead of the critical 2026 World Cup Qualification matches.

This important message was disseminated by Erick in the federation’s official release on Friday (25/10) afternoon. The statement highlighted the high stakes in the current competitive landscape, noting that two coaches in Group C were recently dismissed due to underwhelming team performances.

The coaches who faced the axe are Graham Arnold, who was let go by Australia, and Roberto Mancini, who saw his contract terminated by Saudi Arabia. This development underscores the intense pressure placed on coaches in international football.

Erick’s remarks indicate that Shin must remain accountable for finalizing the team’s formation and strategies for each of the remaining six matches in the qualification round.

This admonishment follows public backlash against Shin’s tactical decisions during the recent match against China, which resulted in Indonesia suffering its first defeat in the qualifiers.

In the release, it was highlighted that Erick is aiming for Shin to secure at least a fourth-place finish in Group C, a challenging target given that Indonesia currently occupies the fifth position in the standings.

“I have met with coach Shin [Shin Tae Yong]. We are seriously discussing the national team’s objective of finishing in the top four in the group,” Erick stated on Friday (25/10) afternoon.

“It is the coach’s responsibility to prepare the team and tactics comprehensively, particularly for the pivotal home matches against Japan and Saudi Arabia next month,” he asserted.

Erick also stressed the importance of refining the tactics that Shin deployed in the previous matches against Bahrain and China, particularly criticizing the complete overhaul of the main squad against China.

This widespread scrutiny followed Indonesia’s narrow loss to China, which ended 1-2. Public criticism focused on Shin’s controversial team adjustments, with many branding his tactical shifts as errors in judgment.

“We must optimize our tactical approach. The stability that is beginning to develop must be maintained so that when we take the field, our tactics are both ready and well-practiced,” said the BUMN Minister.

The public reaction was particularly strong regarding Shin’s decision to alter the national team lineup against China. Key players, including Thom Haye, were not featured for the full match duration, and Eliano Reijnders was even omitted from the roster entirely. This bold yet risky move by the South Korean coach led to his first defeat in the ongoing 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

Ics and maintaining the stability of the team. Public scrutiny can be a double-edged sword; while it can push a coach to innovate, it can also instigate fear of making bold decisions. He needs to reassure both the players and the public that he has a solid plan moving forward, especially with key matches against Japan and Saudi Arabia upcoming.

Interviewer: That’s an interesting point. Given the pressure on Shin to secure at least a fourth-place finish in Group C, what strategies do you think he should employ to achieve this goal?

Rina Yulia: First and foremost, Shin needs to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the opposing teams in the remaining fixtures. Understanding the tactical approaches of Japan and Saudi Arabia is essential for a successful game plan. Additionally, he should focus on maintaining a stable lineup—one that incorporates key players who’ve proven their value in previous games. Building chemistry among players is vital, so he should avoid making too many drastic changes.

If Shin can address the fans’ concerns and re-engage them, it will positively affect the players’ morale. Creating an electric atmosphere during home matches can give Indonesia an edge, especially in high-pressure games.
